I saw a little sparrow outside my windows today
It looked so cold and helpless, just motionless
Could this poor creature be sick I pondered?
Or just cold from the chilly breezes passing by

At first the bird appeared to be frozen in time
A statue carved out of morning ice and snow
Waiting for the sun to shine and warm the air
Perhaps it surrendered to the frigid temperature

Peering out my window to gather a closer look
The feathers looked stationary and barely moving
Just then a sunbeam rose overhead shining downward
With a shudder flapped his wings and flew away
