The Approach of Winter
The ebb of autumn is elusively fleeting
Frigid nights are soon on the horizon
The last of the vibrant leaves have fallen
Soon to be replaced by crystals of frost
The arrival of colder nights is not far behind
Winter birds will embark on their journey
To another climate change location
It will be time to fill the bird feeders again
Some summer animals prepare to hibernate
In their cozy makeshift abodes and sleep
Waiting again for the pleasant spring thaw
And awake from slumber to the world renewed
Cookouts and swimming are put on hold for now
And only those not faint of heart will venture out
The cold moisture will soon chill to the bone
And a pleasant fireplace can be a place of refuge
To be replaced with building of snowmen
And skiing along with other winter activities
Soon summer will be but a passing memory
And be replaced with different seasonal joys
But fear not as the warmth shall return
With green grass and sounds of spring
The cycle is diligently repeated each year
With the marvel of nature's wonder
