Winter's Arrival
The dawn breeze has turned a bit colder,
Miniature crystals appear on the morning grass.
As geese fly south to a warmer climate,
A hint of impending snow is on the horizon.
Not a sign of imminent foreboding,
But rather a calm stillness in the air.
With the landscape colors slowing changing,
To a more dullness of brown and gray.
The thoughts of sitting by the fireplace,
Hot cocoa and s'mores on a wooden stick.
Families gathering for the winter holidays,
And outside activities in the cold and snow.
Summer birds have ceased their singing,
Winter flocks will soon dot the forest,
A faint halo highlights the night moon,
Fields shall be fodder for winter snow.
The winter sky appears dark and foreboding,
Clouds gather and seem as an angry mob.
Barren ground is frigid and unyielding,
A harbinger of what to expect this season.
