Attack at Dawn
It begins slowly and quietly at first
Movements are cautious and planned
Slow and then stopping to start again
A predator is loose among us
The scene has been done many times
Through the ages with little change
Preparations made and implemented
And the results remain the same
A hunter and the hunted
As in an act of a play foretold
Each knowing their part by repetition
As if rehearsed many times over
Soon the battle will be over
With the victor will go the spoils?
To the viewer the outcome is set
As how can it be any different?
The prey seems helpless to escape
The hunter skilled at the task
Resistance will not change the result
The final result is certain for the fallen
Now the battle is near staring
The combatants are on the field of battle
The cat leaps for the unwary bird
But the bird it seems way waiting
As if to submit to the end
Instead at the last second when all seemed lost
In the final second of the attack
The bird flew off as if to say not this day.
